| 504 그리스도인은 묵상을 통해 이룰 수 있나요?
그리스도인은 묵상 중에 하느님과 친밀함을 느끼고 그분의 현존 속에서 평화를 얻기 위해 고요함을 찾으려 합니다. 그는 거저 주어진 은총의 선물로서 하느님의 현존을 뚜렷이 체험할 수 있기를 바라지만, 특정한 묵상 방법을 통해 그런 체험을 하기를 바라지는 않습니다. 묵상은 인격을 성숙시키고 강화하는 신앙에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있습니다. 그러나 하느님을 직접 체험할 수 있다거나, 하느님과 영적 결합을 할 수 있다고 장담하는 묵상 방법들은 전부 사기입니다. 그런 것들로 인해 많은 사람이 하느님을 느끼지 못하게 되면, 하느님에게 버림받았다는 잘못된 생각을 합니다. 하느님은 특정한 방법들을 통해 체험할 수 있는 분이 아닙니다. 그분은 당신이 원하시는 때 당신이 원하시는 방식으로 우리에게 속마음을 털어놓으십니다. 504 What can a Christian accomplish through meditation? In →MEDITATION a Christian seeks silence so as to experience intimacy with God and to find peace in his presence. He hopes for the sensible experience of his presence, which is an undeserved gift of grace he does not expect it, however, as the product of a particular technique of meditation. →MEDITATION can be an important aid to faith that strengthens and matures the human person. Nevertheless, techniques of meditation that promise to bring about an experience of God, or even the soul’s with God, are deceptive. On account of such false promises, many people believe that God has abandoned them just because they do not perceive him. But God cannot be compelled to show up by particular methods. The spiritual masters of all times have described growth in faith and in love for God as a spiritual, life-and-death combat. The battlefield is man’s interior life. The Christian’s weapon is prayer. We can allow ourselves be defeated by our selfishness and lose ourselves over worthless things?or we can win God. 2725-2752 Often someone who wants to pray must first conquer his lack of will power. Even the Desert Fathers were acquainted with spiritual sluggishness (“acedia”). Reluctance to seek God is a big problem in the spiritual life. The spirit of the times sees no point in praying, and our full calendars leave no room for it. Then there is the battle against the tempter, who will try anything to keep a person from devoting himself to God. If God did not want us to find our way to him in prayer, we would not win the battle. 506 기도는 일종의 독백이 아닌가요? 기도의 가장 큰 특징은, 우리가 ‘나’에서 ‘너’로 중심을 옮겨 가며 자기중심적 태도에서 벗어나 개방적인 마음을 갖게 된다는 것입니다. 참되게 기도하는 사람은 하느님이 말씀하고 계시다는 것과, 그분은 때때로 우리가 바라거나 기대하는 방식과는 다르게 말씀하신다는 것을 체험하게 됩니다. 기도를 많이 해 본 사람들은 종종 기도하기 전과 기도한 후가 다르다고 이야기합니다. 때때로 사람들은, 기도를 통해 슬픔을 위로받거나 낙심했던 마음에 새 기운을 얻는 등 자신의 바람이 채워졌음을 느낍니다. 그러나 사람들은 곤경에서 벗어나기를 바라지만 오히려 더 깊은 불안감에 빠질 수도 있고, 평온히 쉬기를 바라지만 임무를 부여받을 수도 있습니다. 기도를 통해 끊임없이 이루어지는 하느님과의 진정한 만남은 하느님과 기도에 관한 우리의 기존 관념을 무너뜨릴 수도 있습니다. 506 Is prayer not just a sort of conversation with yourself? The distinctive feature about prayer is precisely the fact that one goes from Me to You, from self-centeredness to radical openness. Someone who is really praying can experience the fact that God speaks?and that often he does not speak as we expect and would like. Those who are experienced in prayer report that a person very often comes out of a prayer session different from the way he went in. Sometimes expectations are met: you are sad and find consolation you lack confidence and receive new strength. It can also happen, though, that you would like to forget pressures but are made even more uneasy that you would like to be left in peace and instead receive an assignment. A real encounter with God?the kind that occurs again and again in prayer?can shatter our preconceptions about both God and prayer. 507 왜 기도가 도움이 되지 않는 경우가 생기나요? 기도를 통해 우리는 표면적인 성과가 아니라 하느님의 뜻과 그분의 친밀함을 추구합니다. 하느님은 침묵하고 계신 듯하지만, 실은 우리를 전적인 헌신과 무한한 믿음, 끝없는 기다림으로 한 걸음 더 나오라고 초대하시는 것입니다. 기도하는 사람은 하느님에게 완전한 자유를 허락해 드려야 합니다. 곧 하느님이 원하실 때 말씀하시고 원하실 때 이루시며 원하실 때 당신 자신을 주실 수 있도록 해야 합니다. 2735-2737 우리는 때때로 “기도했는데도 도움이 전혀 되지 않았어.”라고 말합니다. 그런데 어쩌면 우리가 충분히 열성적으로 기도하지 않았는지도 모릅니다. 요한 마리아 비안네 성인은 기도 효과가 없었다고 불평하는 한 동료에게 이렇게 물었습니다. “자네가 기도하고 탄식했다는 말이지. …… 그런데 자녀, 단식하거나 잠자지 않으면서도 기도했나?” 또 어쩌면 우리는 그릇된 것을 하느님께 청했을 수도 있습니다. 그런 까닭에 예수의 데레사 성녀는 “짐을 가볍게 해 달라고 청할 것이 아니라, 짐을 짊어질 등을 더 강하게 만들어 달라고 청하십시오.”라고 말했습니다. 507 What happens if you find that prayer does not help? Prayer does not seek superficial success but rather the will of God and intimacy with him. God’s apparent silence is itself an invitation to take a step farther?in total devotion, boundless faith, endless expectation. Anyone who prays must allow God the complete freedom to speak whenever he wants, to grant whatever he wants, and to give himself however he wants. 2735-2737 Often we say: I have prayed, but it did not help at all. Maybe we are not praying intensely enough. The saintly Cur? of Ars once asked a brother priest who was complaining about his lack of success, “You have prayed, you have sighed . . . but have you fasted, too? Have you kept vigil?” It could also be that we are asking God for the wrong things. St. Teresa of Avila once said, “Do not pray for lighter burdens pray for a stronger back.” |
