| 124 교회가 단순한 공공 기관이 아닌 이유는 무엇인가요?
교회는 인간적이며 동시에 신적인 신비이기 때문에 공공 기관의 성격을 넘어서는 기구입니다. 진정한 사랑은 눈을 멀게 하지 않고 오히려 잘 볼 수 있게 만듭니다. 교회를 보는 시각도 마찬가지입니다. 외부에서 볼 때 교회는 역사적인 업적을 이루기도 했지만, 과오를 범하고 심지어 범죄까지 저질렀던 역사를 지닌 기관이기도 했습니다. 그래서 교회를 죄인들의 교회라고도 할 수 있습니다. 그러나 그것은 교회의 진면목이 아닙니다. 왜냐하면 우리가 그리스도를 매일같이 배반한다 할지라도 그분은 결코 교회를 저버리지 않을 만큼 우리 죄인들과 깊은 관계를 맺으셨기 때문입니다. 그처럼 인간적인 속성과 신적인 속성이 분리될 수 없이 결합 되어 있으며, 죄와 은총이 서로 뒤섞여 있는 것이 바로 교회라는 신비입니다. 따라서 신앙의 눈으로 볼 때 교회는 영원히 거룩합니다. 124 Why is the Church more than an institution? Seen with the eyes of faith, the Church is therefore indestructibly holy. 125 ‘하느님의 백성’인 교회가 지닌 유일무이한 특성은 무엇인가요? 이 백성의 창시자는 아버지신 하느님이고, 그 우두머리는 예수 그리스도며, 그들의 힘의 원천은 성령이십니다. 하느님의 백성이 되기 위한 첫 관문은 세례입니다. 하느님의 백성이 지닌 품위는 하느님의 자녀로서 누리는 자유에서 드러나며, 그들의 법은 사랑입니다. 하느님께 신의를 지키고 하느님 나라를 먼저 구함으로써 그들은 세상을 변화시킵니다. 지구상의 모든 사람들 가운데 다른 누구와도 비교할 수 없는 한 부류의 사람들이 존재합니다. 이들은 하느님 말고는 다른 어느 누구도 따르지 않습니다. 이들은 맛을 내는 소금이나 모든 것 안에 스며드는 누룩, 또는 어둠을 몰아내는 빛과 같은 존재여야 합니다. 하느님을 따르는 사람이라면 누구나, 하느님의 현존을 부정하고 그분의 계명을 지키지 않는 사람들과 공공연하게 대립되는 관계에 있음을 염두에 두어야 합니다. 그러나 하느님의 자녀로서 누리는 자유 덕분에 우리는 아무것도, 심지어 죽음까지도 두려워할 필요가 없게 되었습니다. 125 What is unique about the People of God? The founder of this people is God the Father. Its leader is Jesus Christ. Its source of strength is the Holy Spirit. The entryway to the People of God is Baptism. Its dignity is the freedom of the children of God. Its law is love. If this people remains faithful to God and seeks first the kingdom of God, it changes the world. 781-786 In the midst of all the peoples on earth, there is one people that is like no other. It is subject to no one but God alone. It is supposed to be like salt, which adds flavor like yeast, which permeates everything like light, which drives away the darkness. Anyone who belongs to the People of God must count on coming into conflict with people who deny God’s existence and disregard his commandments. In the freedom of the children of God, however, we have nothing to fear, not even death. |
