| 135 교회는 유다인들과 어떤 관계에 있나요?
유다인들은 그리스도교 신자들의 손위 형제자매라고 할 수 있는데, 이는 하느님이 그들을 먼저 사랑하시고 그들에게 먼저 말씀하셨기 때문입니다. 예수 그리스도가 인간으로서는 유다인이었다는 사실은 우리와 그들을 하나로 엮어 주지만, 그리스도가 하느님의 살아 있는 아드님이라는 교회의 고백과 관련해서는 우리와 유다인은 구분됩니다. 그러나 메시아의 최종적인 도래를 기다리고 있다는 점에서 우리와 그들은 하나입니다. 839-840 유다교의 신앙은 우리 그리스도교 신앙의 근간을 이룹니다. 유다인들의 성경은 우리의 구약 성경에 해당합니다. 십계명으로 대변되는 윤리를 지닌 유다교와 그리스도교의 인간상과 도덕 개념은 서구 민주주의의 토대입니다. 그리스도교 신자들이 수백 년 동안 유다교와의 이러한 친족 관계를 부인하려 했고, 사이비 신학적인 근거를 내세워 종종 치명적인 결과를 초래할 정도로 유다인들에 대한 적개심을 부채질했던 점은 부끄럽기만 합니다. 성 요한 바오로 2세 교황은 2000년에 성스러운 해를 맞이하여 이에 대해 용서를 청했습니다. 제2차 바티칸 공의회는 유다 민족에게 그리스도의 십자가 죽음에 대해 책임을 지울 수 없다고 분명하게 밝혔습니다. 135 What is the relation between the Church and the Jews? Jews are the “older brethren” of Christians, because God loved them first and spoke to them first. Jesus Christ as man is a Jew, and this fact unites us. The Church recognizes in him the Son of the living God, and this fact separates us. In awaiting the final coming of the Messiah we are one. 839-840 The Jewish faith is the root of our faith. The Sacred Scripture of the Jews, which we call the Old Testament, is the first part of our Sacred Scripture. The Judeo-Christian concept of man and morality, which is informed by the Ten Commandments, is the foundation of Western democracies. It is shameful that for hundreds of years Christians were unwilling to admit this close relation to Judaism and for pseudo-theological reasons helped foment an anti-Semitism that all too often had lethal effects. During the Holy Year 2000, Pope John Paul II expressly asked forgiveness for this. The Second Vatican Council clearly states that the Jews as a people cannot be charged with any collective guilt for the crucifixion of Christ. 136 교회는 다른 종교에 대해 어떤 견해를 갖고 있나요? 교회는 다른 종교가 지닌 선하고 진실된 모든 면모를 존중합니다. 교회는 인간이 누려야 할 기본 권리로서 종교의 자유를 존중하고 장려합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 교회는 예수 그리스도만이 인류 전체를 위한 유일한 구세주이심을 고백합니다. 그분만이 “길이요 진리요 생명”(요한 14,6)이시기 때문입니다. 841-848 하느님을 찾는 사람은 누구나 우리 그리스도교 신자들과 가깝습니다. 이슬람교도들은 우리와 특별한 유사점을 갖고 있습니다. 이슬람굔느 유다교와 그리스도교처럼 유일신을 믿는 종교(유일신교)입니다. 이슬람교도들도 창조주 하느님을 섬기며, 아브라함을 신앙의 선조로 공경합니다. 이슬람교의 경전인 코란은 예수님을 위대한 예언자로, 성모님을 예언자의 어머니로 여기고 있습니다. 교회는 자기 탓이 없이 예수 그리스도와 그분의 교회를 모르더라도 참다운 마음으로 하느님을 찾고 자기 양심의 소리를 따르는 모든 사람들은 영원한 구원에 이를 수 있다고 가르칩니다. 그러나 예수 그리스도가 “길이요 진리요 생명”이신 줄 알면서도 그분을 따르려 하지 않는 사람은 구원에 이르는 길을 벗어난 거라고 말합니다. ‘교회 밖에서는 구원을 찾지 못한다’는 말은 바로 이를 두고 하는 말입니다. 136 How does the Church view other religions? The →CHURCH respects everything in other religions that is good and true. She respects and promotes freedom of religion as a human right. Yet she knows that Jesus Christ is the sole redeemer of all mankind. He alone is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6). 841-848 Whoever seeks God is close to us Christians. There is a special degree of “affinity” to the Muslims. Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam is one of the monotheistic religions (→MONOTHEISM). The Muslims, too, revere God the Creator and Abraham as their father in faith. Jesus is considered a great prophet in the Qur’an Mary, his Mother, as the mother of a prophet. The Church teaches that all men who by no fault of their own do not know Christ and his Church but sincerely seek God and follow the voice of their conscience can attain eternal salvation. However, anyone who has recognized that Jesus Christ is “the way, and the truth, and the life” but is unwilling to follow him cannot find salvation by other paths. This is what is meant by the saying, Extra ecclesiam nulla salus (outside of the Church there is no salvation). |
