| 162 하느님은 사랑이신데 어떻게 지옥이 존재할 수 있나요?
하느님이 인간에게 유죄 판결을 내리신 것은 아닙니다. 하느님의 자비로운 사랑을 거부하고 하느님과 함께하는 공동체에서 자신을 배제함으로써, 자유 의지로 자신에게서 영원한 생명을 앗아간 존재는 바로 인간 자신입니다. 1036-1037 하느님은 가장 나쁜 죄인과도 하나가 되기를 갈망하십니다. 다시 말해 그분은 모든 사람들이 회개하고 구원받기를 원하십니다. 그렇지만 하느님은 인간에게 자유를 선물하셨고, 인간이 내린 결정을 존중하십니다. 따라서 하느님도 사랑을 강요할 수는 없습니다. 누군가 하늘나라 대신 지옥을 선택할 때는 사랑의 행위자인 하느님조차도 어찌할 도리가 없으십니다. 162 But if God is love, how can there be a hell? God does not damn men. Man himself is the one who refuses God’s merciful love and voluntarily deprives himself of (eternal) life by excluding himself from commwith God. 1036-1037 God yearns for commeven with the worst sinner he wants everyone to convert and be saved. Yet God created man to be free and respects his decisions. Even God cannot compel love. As a lover he is “powerless” when someone chooses hell instead of heaven. 163 최후의 심판이란 무엇인가요? 최후의 심판은 세상이 끝나는 날 그리스도가 다시 오실 때 열립니다. “선을 행한 이들은 부활하여 생명을 얻고 악을 저지른 자들은 부활하여 심판을 받을 것이다.”(요한 5,29). 1038-1041, 1058-1059 그리스도가 영광에 싸여 다시 오실 때는 그분의 온전한 광채가 우리를 비출 것입니다. 그러면 진실이 뚜렷하게 드러날 것입니다. 다시 말해 우리의 생각과 행위, 하느님과의 관계나 인간과의 관계가 속속들이 드러날 것이며, 더 이상 숨길 수도 없을 것입니다. 우리는 창조의 궁극적 의미를 깨닫게 되고 우리를 구원하시는 하느님의 놀라운 방식들을 이해하게 될 뿐만 아니라, 본래 가장 큰 권능을 지니신 하느님이 왜 악이 그렇게 세력을 뻗치도록 놔두셨지 마침내 그 답을 얻게 될 것입니다. 최후의 심판은 우리가 심판을 받는 날이기도 합니다. 우리가 부활하여 생명을 얻게 될지, 아니면 영원히 하느님과 갈라서게 될지 이때 결정됩니다. 하느님은 생명을 선택한 이들을 다시 새롭게 창조하실 것입니다. 그들은 ‘새로운 몸’(2코린 5장 참조)을 입고 하느님의 영광 속에서 영원히 살며, 영혼과 육신을 통해 그분을 찬양할 것입니다. 163 What is the Last Judgment? The Last Judgment will take place at the end of the world, at the second coming of Christ. “All who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment” (Jn 5:29). 1038-1041, 1058-1059 When Christ comes again in glory, his full splendor will shine upon us. The truth will come plainly to light: our thoughts, our deeds, our relationship to God and to other men?nothing will remain hidden. We will recognize the ultimate meaning of creation, comprehend God’s marvelous ways for the sake of our salvation, and finally receive also an answer to the question of why evil can be so powerful if God is in fact the Almighty. The Last Judgment is also our day in court. Here it is decided whether we will rise to eternal life or be separated from God forever. Toward those who have chosen life, God will act creatively once again. In a “new body” (see 2 Cor 5) they will live forever in God’s glory and praise him with body and soul. |
