| 199 세례성사만이 실제로 구원에 이르는 유일한 길인가요?
복음을 받아들이고 그리스도가 “길이요 진리요 생명(요한 14,6)”이시라는 것을 전해 들은 모든 이들에게 세례는 하느님과 구원에 이르는 유일한 길입니다. 그렇지만 그리스도가 모든 이들을 위해 돌아가신 것도 사실입니다. 따라서 그리스도와 신앙을 실제로 알게 될 기회를 갖지 못했더라도 진지한 마음으로 하느님을 찾고 양심에 따라 사는 이들은 모두 구원에 이르게 됩니다(이른바 화세(火洗)로, 자기 열성(熱誠)으로 죄를 씻는다는 뜻). 1257-1261, 1281, 1283 하느님은 구원을 성사와 결부하셨습니다. 따라서 교회는 사람들에게 끊임없이 성사를 베풀어야 합니다. 이러한 사명을 포기한다면 하느님의 분부를 저버리는 것입니다. 그러나 하느님은 성사에 종속되지 않으십니다. 교회가 죄나 그 밖의 다른 이유로 기대에 상응하지 못하거나 성과 없이 머물게 되는 경우, 하느님이 몸소 구원에 이르는 다른 길을 사람들에게 열어주십니다. 199 Is Baptism in fact the only way to salvation? For all those who have received the Gospel and have heard that Christ is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6), Baptism is the only way to God and salvation. At the same time, however, it is true that Christ died for all mankind. Therefore all men who have had no opportunity to learn about Christ and the faith but seek God sincerely and live according to their conscience also find salvation (the so-called Baptism of desire). 1257-1261, 1281, 1283 God has made salvation dependent on the → SACRAMENTS. Therefore the Church must tirelessly offer them to mankind. To give up her missionary work would be a betrayal of God’s commission. God himself, however, is not dependent on his sacraments. In Baptism we become members of the Body of Christ, sisters and brothers of our Redeemer, and children of God. We are freed from sin, snatched from death, and destined from then on for a life in the joy of the redeemed. 1262-1274, 1279-1280 Being baptized means that my personal life story is submerged in the stream of God’s love. “Our life”, says Pope Benedict XVI, “now belongs to Christ, and no longer to ourselves. . . . At his side and, indeed, drawn up in his love, we are freed from fear. He enfolds us and carries us wherever we may go?he who is Life itself” (April 7, 2007). 201 세례성사 때 세례명을 받는 것에는 어떤 의미가 있나요? 하느님은 우리가 세례 때 받는 이름으로 우리를 부르십니다. “내가 너를 지명하여 불렀으니 너는 나의 것이다.”(이사 43,1) 세례 때 인간은 이름 없이 신성(神性) 속으로 사라지는 것이 아니라 바로 그 이름을 통해 하나의 개인으로서 자신을 확인받습니다. 세례 때 이름을 받는다는 것은, 하느님이 나를 알고 계시며 나에게 동의해 주시고, 다른 것과 혼동되지 않는 고유한 모습을 지닌 나를 영원히 받아들이신다는 것을 의미합니다. 201 What is the significance of receiving a name in Baptism? Through the name that we receive in Baptism God tells us: “I have called you by name, you are mine” (Is 43:1). 2156-2159, 2165 In Baptism a person is not dissolved into an anonymous divinity, but rather is affirmed precisely in his individuality. To be baptized by a name signifies that God knows me, he says Yes to me and accepts me forever in my unrepeatable uniqueness. |
