| 290 하느님은 우리가 자유로운 사람이 되도록 어떻게 도우시나요?
그리스도는 우리를 자유롭게 하시려고 해방해 주셨고(갈라 5,1 참조) 우리가 형제애를 나눌 수 있기를 바라십니다. 그런 까닭에 그분은 우리에게 성령을 보내셨습니다. 성령은 우리가 세상의 권력으로부터 자유롭고 종속 받지 않으며 사랑과 책임이 있는 삶을 살 수 있도록 우리를 굳건하게 해 주셨습니다. 1739-1742, 1748 죄를 지을수록 우리는 점점 더 자기 자신만을 생각하게 되고, 점점 더 자유로이 발전하기 어려워집니다. 또한 죄로 말미암아 우리는 선을 행하고 사랑하며 사는 일에 무능력해집니다. 우리 마음속에 자리 잡은 성령은 하느님과 인간에 대한 사랑으로 가득 찬 마음을 우리에게 선물하십니다. 우리는 성령의 힘으로 사랑에 마음을 열고, 자신을 내적 자유로 이끌며, 자신과 선과 사랑을 행하는 훌륭한 도구로 쓸 수 있습니다. 290 How does God help us to be free men? Christ wants us to be “set free for freedom” (see Gal 5:1) and to become capable of brotherly love. That is why he sends us the Holy Spirit, who makes us free and independent of worldly powers and strengthens us for a life of love and responsibility. 1739-1742, 1748 The more we sin, the more we think only about ourselves and the less well we can develop freely. In sinning we also become more inept at doing good and practicing charity. The Holy Spirit, who has come down into our hearts, gives us a heart that is filled with love for God and mankind. We avail ourselves of the Holy Spirit as the power that leads us to inner freedom, opens our hearts for love, and makes us better instruments for what is good and loving. 291 자기 행실이 선한지 악한지를 어떻게 판단할 수 있나요? 인간에게는 명확하게 판단할 수 있는 이성과 양심이 있어 선한 행동과 악한 행동을 구별할 수 있습니다. 1749-1754, 1757-1758 다음과 같은 기준들을 선한 행동과 악한 행동을 더 잘 구별할 수 있게 도와줍니다. 1) 내가 선한 의도로 행동하는 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 가난한 이들을 돕겠다는 좋은 의도로 은행을 털었다 할지라도, 은행 강도는 언제나 나쁜 짓입니다. 2) 내가 하는 해위가 실제로 선한 일일지라도 악한 의도로 행한다면 그 행위 전체는 악한 것이 됩니다. 만약 어떤 할머니를 집까지 모셔다드리고 집에 들어가시는 것을 돕는다면 그것은 분명 착한 일입니다. 그런데 나중에 그 집을 도둑질하기 위해 도운 것이라면, 할머니를 도운 행위는 나쁜 짓이 되고 맙니다. 3) 행위하는 상황이 행위에 대한 책임을 덜어 줄 수는 있지만, 그 행위가 지닌 선하거나 악한 속성 자체를 바꿀 수는 없습니다. 예를 들면 어머니가 먼저 자녀에게 많은 사랑을 베풀지 못했다 하더라도, 자녀가 자기 어머니를 폭행하는 것은 예외 없이 나쁜 행위입니다. 291 How can a person tell whether his action is good or bad? A person is capable of distinguishing good actions from bad ones because he possesses reason and a conscience, which enable him to make clear judgments. 1749-1754, 1757-1758 The following guidelines make it easier to distinguish good actions from bad ones: 1) What I do must be good a good intention alone is not enough. Bank robbery is always bad, even if I commit that crime with the good intention of giving the money to poor people. 2) Even when what I do is truly good, if I perform the good action with a bad intention, it makes the whole action bad. If I walk an elderly woman home and help her around the house, that is good. But if I do it while planning a later break-in, that makes the whole action something bad. 3) The circumstances in which someone acts can diminish his responsibility, but they cannot change at all the good or bad character of an action. Hitting one’s mother is always bad, even if the mother has previously shown little love to the child. 292 선한 결과를 얻기 위해 악한 짓을 해도 되나요? 그렇지 않습니다. 선한 결과를 얻으려고 악한 일을 하거나 그 일을 용인해서도 안 됩니다. 더 큰 악을 피하려고 그보다 작은 악을 용인해야 하는 경우는 더러 있을 수 있습니다. 1755-1756, 1759-1761 목적이 수단을 정당화하지는 않습니다. 혼인 관계를 굳건하게 만들려고 바람을 피우는 일은 옳지 않습니다. 이와 마찬가지로 의학 분야에서 획기적인 성과를 얻을 수 있다고 하더라도 줄기세포를 연구하려고 배아를 사용하는 것은 그릇된 일입니다. 성폭행 피해자가 원치 않는 임신을 했을 때 낙태 수술을 해서 그를 ‘돕겠다는’ 것도 그릇된 일입니다. 292 May we do something bad so that good can result from it? No, we may never deliberately do something evil or tolerate an evil so that good can result from it. Sometimes there is no other course of action but to tolerate a lesser evil in order to prevent a greater evil. 1755-1756, 1759-1761 The end does not justify the means. It cannot be right to commit infidelity so as to stabilize one’s marriage. It is just as wrong to use embryos for stem cell research, even if one could thereby make medical breakthroughs. It is wrong to try to “help” a rape victim by aborting her child. |
