| 306 믿음, 희망, 사랑을 덕행이라 할 수 있는 이유는 무엇인가요?
믿음, 희망, 사랑은 물론 하느님께 받은 참된 능력입니다. 인간은 ‘넘치는 생명을’ 얻기 위해(요한 10,10 참조) 하느님 은총에 힘입어 이를 키울 수 있습니다. 1812-1813, 1840-1841 306 Why are faith, hope, and charity virtues? Faith, hope, and charity, too, are genuine powers-bestowed by God, of course?that a person can develop and consolidate with the grace of God so as to obtain “the abundant life” (see Jn 10:10). 1812-1813, 1840-1841 307 믿음이란 무엇인가요? 믿음은 우리가 하느님에게 동의하고, 그분의 진실함을 인정하며, 그분과 개인적인 가약(佳約)을 맺는 힘입니다. 1814-1816, 1842 믿음은 하느님이 만드신 길이며, 그 길은 당신 자체인 진리로 우리를 이끕니다. 예수님은 “길이요 진리요 생명”(요한 14,6)이시기 때문에, 이러한 믿음은 단순히 어떤 태도나 무엇인가에 대한 ‘깊은 신뢰’를 말하는 것이 아닙니다. 믿음은 한편으로 교회가 고백하는 신경에 명확하게 나와 있으며, 교회는 이를 보호해야 할 사명이 있습니다. 신앙이라는 선물을 받으려는 사람은 시대와 문화를 초월하여 충실하게 보전된 교회의 그 믿음을 고백합니다. 다른 한편으로 믿음은 감성과 이성 그리고 모든 정서적 능력을 동원하여 하느님을 신뢰하는 관계를 말합니다. 믿음은 사랑을 통해 그 진실함이 드러나기 때문입니다(갈라 5,6 참조). 누가 실제로 사랑의 하느님을 믿는지 아닌지는 그의 맹세가 아니라 그가 행하는 사랑의 행위를 통해서 드러납니다. 307 What is faith? Faith is the power by which we assent to God, acknowledge his truth, and commit ourselves personally to him. 1814-1816, 1842 Faith is the path created by God leading to the truth that is God himself. Because Jesus is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6), this faith cannot be merely an attitude or “confidence” about something or other. On the one hand, the faith has definite contents, which the Church professes in the →CREED ( profession of faith), and it is her duty to safeguard them. Anyone who wants to accept the gift of faith, in other words, anyone who wants to believe, acknowledges this faith, which has been preserved constantly through the ages and in many different cultures. On the other hand, part of faith is a trusting relationship to God with heart and mind, with all one’s emotional strength. For faith becomes effective only through charity, practical love (see Gal 5:6). Whether someone really believes in the God of love is shown, not in his solemn affirmations, but rather in charitable deeds. 308 희망이란 무엇인가요? 희망은 우리가 이 세상에 사는 목적을 끊임없이 굳건하게 열망하도록 만드는 힘입니다. 그 목적이란 하느님을 찬양하고 그분을 섬기는 일이며, 하느님 안에서 우리의 참된 행복을 성취하는 것이고, 또한 우리의 최종적인 고향인 하느님 안에 있는 것입니다. 1817-1821, 1843 희망이란, 하느님이 세상을 창조하셨을 때 약속하셨던 것을 믿는 것입니다. 또한 예언자를 통해, 특별히 예수 그리스도를 통해 우리에게 약속하신 것을 신뢰하는 것입니다. 우리가 아직 그것을 보지 못했을지라도 말입니다. 우리가 끈기 있게 참된 것을 바랄 수 있도록 하느님은 우리에게 성령을 보내 주셨습니다. 308 What is hope? Hope is the power by which we firmly and constantly long for what we were placed on earth to do: to praise God and to serve him and for our true happiness, which is finding our fulfillment in God and for our final home: in God. 1817-1821, 1843 Hope is trusting in what God has promised us in creation, in the prophets, but especially in Jesus Christ, even though we do not yet see it. God’s Holy Spirit is given to us so that we can patiently hope for the Truth. 309 사랑이란 무엇인가요? 사랑은 하느님의 사랑을 받은 우리가 하느님에게 헌신하는 힘입니다. 그로써 우리는 하느님과 하나가 되고, 하느님에 대한 사랑으로 이웃을 자신처럼 무조건 진심으로 받아들일 수 있습니다. 1822-1829, 1844 예수님은 모든 율법 위에 사랑을 세우셨으므로 사랑이 없는 율법은 폐기하셨습니다. 그러므로 “사랑해라! 네가 원하는 일을 행하라.”라고 한 아우구스티노 성인의 말은 옳습니다. 그러나 이것은 결코 말처럼 쉽지만은 않습니다. 결국 사랑은 다른 모든 힘에 혼을 불어넣으며 하느님의 생명을 채우는 가장 큰 동력이라 할 수 있습니다. 309 What is charity? Charity is the power by which we, who have been loved first by God, can give ourselves to God so as to be united with him and can accept our neighbor for God’s sake as unconditionally and sincerely as we accept ourselves. 1822-1829, 1844 Jesus places love above all laws, without however abolishing the latter. Therefore St. Augustine rightly says, “Love, and do what you will.” Which is not at all as easy as it sounds. That is why charity, love, is the greatest virtue, the energy that inspires all the other virtues and fills them with divine life. |
