| 334 ‘천부적인 도덕률’과 구약의 율법은 어떤 관계가 있나요?
구약 시대의 율법은 본래 인간의 지성을 통해 파악된 것이지만, 이제는 하느님의 법이라고 공표되고 확인된 진실들을 표현합니다. 1961-1963, 1981 334 What connection is there between the “natural moral law” and the Law of the Old Covenant? The Law of the Old Covenant expresses truths that by nature are evident to human reason yet are now proclaimed and authenticated as God’s Law. 1961-1963, 1981 335 구약 시대의 ‘율법’은 어떤 의미를 지니나요? ‘율법’과 율법의 핵심인 십계명을 통해 하느님의 뜻이 이스라엘 백성들에게 알려졌습니다. 이스라엘에게는 율법을 지키는 것이 구원에 이르는 근본적인 수단입니다. 그리스도인들은 ‘율법’을 통해 무엇을 행해야 하는지 알게 됩니다. 그러나 그들은 ‘율법’이 인간을 구원하는 것은 아님을 알고 있습니다. 1963-1964, 1981-1982 인간은 누구나, 어떤 의미에서 선이 ‘규정되어’ 있는지 알고 있습니다. 그러나 우리 안에는 이것을 실행할 힘이 없습니다. 이것은 너무 어렵고, 사람들은 ‘무력감’을 느낍니다(로마 7,14-25 8,3 참조). 그런데 우리는 ‘율법’을 보며 우리가 죄의 수중에 있음을 느낍니다. 또한 율법을 통해 우리가 율법을 지키려면 얼마나 절실하게 내적인 힘에 의존하고 있는지도 드러납니다. 그러므로 ‘율법’이 아무리 좋고 중요하다고 해도, 그것은 그저 우리를 구원하시는 하느님에 대한 믿음을 마련할 뿐입니다. 335 What significance does the Law of the Old Covenant have? In the Law (the Torah), and its centerpiece, the Ten Commandments (the →DECALOGUE), the will of God is manifested to the people of Israel following the Torah is for Israel the central way to salvation. Christians know that we can tell by the Law what ought to be done. They also know, however, that it is not the Law that saves us. 1963-1964, 1981-1982 Every man has the experience of finding that something good is, so to speak, “prescribed”. But one does not have the strength to accomplish it it is too difficult one feels “helpless” (see Rom 8:3 and Rom 7:14-25). One sees the Law and feels that one has been handed over to sin. And so precisely through the Law it becomes clear how urgently we rely on inner strength in order to fulfill the Law. That is why the Law, as good and important as it is, only prepares the way for faith in the saving God. 336 예수님은 구약 시대의 ‘율법’에 대해 어떤 입장이셨나요? 예수님은 산상 설교를 통해 “내가 율법이나 예언서들을 폐지하러 온 줄로 생각하지 마라. 폐지하러 온 것이 아니라 오히려 완성하러 왔다.”(마태 5,17)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 1965-1972, 1977, 1983-1985 예수님은 신심 깊은 유다인으로서 당대의 도덕적 관념과 요구에 완전히 부합하는 삶을 사셨습니다. 그러나 그분은 율법을 글자 그대로, 순전히 형식적으로만 해석하는 일련의 견해들과는 거리를 두셨습니다. 336 How did Jesus deal with the Law of the Old Covenant? “Do not think”, says Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, “that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them” (Mt 5:17). 1965-1972, 1977, 1983-1985 Jesus, being a faithful Jew, lived according to the ethical ideas and requirements of his time. But on a series of issues he departed from a literal, merely formal interpretation of the Law. 337 우리는 어떻게 구원되나요? 자기 자신을 구원할 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 그리스도인들은, 하느님이 인간을 구원하기 위해 당신의 아드님 예수 그리스도를 이 세상에 보내셨고, 그분에 의해 자신들이 구원받는다고 믿습니다. 우리에게 구원은 성령을 통해 우리가 죄의 권세에서 해방되고 죽음의 영역에서 벗어나, 다시 하느님을 마주할 수 있는 영원한 생명에 이른 것을 의미합니다. 1987-1995, 2017-2020 바오로 사도는 “모든 사람이 죄를 지어 하느님의 영광을 잃었습니다.”(로마 3,23)라고 말했습니다. 죄는 의로우며 자비로우신 하느님 앞에 존재할 수 없습니다. 죄가 아무런 가치를 지니지 않는다면, 죄인은 어떤 가치를 지닙니까? 하느님은 당신의 사랑으로 죄는 없애고 죄인은 구원할 방법을 찾아내셨습니다. 그분은 죄인을 다시 ‘올바로’, 곧 그를 ‘의롭게’ 만드십니다. 그런 까닭에 예로부터 구원을, 하느님의 은총으로 내면이 변화되었다는 뜻으로 ‘의화’라고 불렀습니다. 자신의 힘으로는 우리의 내면이 변화되지 않습니다. 어느 누구도 자기 자신의 죄를 용서할 수 없고, 죽음으로부터 자신을 구해 낼 수도 없기 때문입니다. 이를 위해서는 하느님이 우리에게 자비를 베푸셔야 합니다. 그 자비를 얻을 자격이 우리에겐 없지만 말입니다. 하느님은 세례로써 우리에게 “예수 그리스도에 대한 믿음을 통하여 오는 하느님의 의로움”(로마 3,22)을 선물하셨습니다. 우리 마음속에 부어져 있는 성령을 통해 우리는 그리스도의 죽음과 부활에 참여하게 됩니다. 우리는 죄를 갖고 죽지만, 하느님 안에서는 새 생명으로 태어납니다. 하느님에게 오는 믿음과 희망과 사랑이 우리를 사로잡고, 우리로 하여금 빛 속에서 살게 하며 하느님의 뜻에 따를 수 있게 합니다. 337 How are we saved? No man can save himself. Christians believe that they are saved by God, who for this purpose sent his Son Jesus Christ into the world. For us salvation means that we are freed by the Holy Spirit from the power of sin and have been brought back from the realm of death to a life without end, a life in God’s presence. 1987-1995, 2017-2020 Paul observes: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). Sin cannot exist in the presence of God, who is justice and goodness through and through. If sin is worth nothing, what about the sinner, then? In his love, God found a way by which he destroys sin but saves the sinner. He makes him “right” again, that is to say, righteous or just. That is why from ancient times salvation has also been called justification. We are not made just by our own power. A man can neither forgive his own sins nor rescue himself from death. For that, God has to act on our behalf?out of mercy, not because we could deserve or merit it. In Baptism, God grants us “the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ” (Rom 3:22). Through the Holy Spirit, who is poured out into our hearts, we take part in the death and Resurrection of Christ?we die to sin and are born to new life in God. The divine gifts of faith, hope, and charity come over us and make us able to live in the light and to obey God’s will. |
