주일을 거룩히 지내라 362 이스라엘 사람들이 안식일을 지키는 이유는 무엇인가요? 안식일은 창조주이자 해방자이신 하느님을 이스라엘 백성에게 기억하게 하는 위대한 표징입니다. 2168-2172, 2189 안식일은 한편으로 창조의 일곱째 날을 상기시킵니다. 그날 하느님은 “쉬면서 숨을 돌렸기 때문에”(탈출 31,17) 그날은 모든 이들이 일을 중단하고 한숨을 돌릴 수 있는 날입니다. 종들도 안식일을 지켜야 했습니다. 안식일은 또한 이집트의 종살이에서 해방된 것을 기억하게 하는 위대한 표징이기도 합니다. “너는 이집트 땅에서 종살이를 하였고, 주 너의 하느님이 강한 손과 뻗은 팔로 너를 그곳에서 이끌어 내었음을 기억하여라.”(신명 5,15) 따라서 안식일은 인간의 자유를 축하하는 잔칫날입니다. 안식일에 사람들은 숨을 돌리고, 이날에는 주인과 종이라는 세상의 구분도 없어집니다. 전통적인 유다교에서 안식일은 자유와 휴식의 날일뿐만 아니라, 도래할 세상을 미리 맛보는 날이기도 합니다. THE THIRD COMMANDMENT: Remember to Keep Holy the Lord’s Day. 362 Why do Jews celebrate the Sabbath? The →SABBATH is for the people of Israel the great sign commemorating God, the Creator and Redeemer. 2168-2172, 2189 The →SABBATH recalls in the first place the seventh day of creation, when God “rested, and was refreshed” (Ex 31:17), this, so to speak, authorizes all men to interrupt their work and replenish their energies. Even slaves were supposed to be allowed to observe the Sabbath. This recalls the second great commemorative sign, the liberation of Israel from slavery in Egypt: “You shall remember that you yourself were a servant in the land of Egypt . . .” (Dt 5:15). The Sabbath is therefore a feast of human freedom on the Sabbath all breathe freely on it the division of the world into masters and slaves is abolished. Jesus observes the →SABBATH, but at the same time he deals with it very liberally, as one who has complete command over it: “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath” (Mk 2:27). 2173 The fact that Jesus claims the right to heal on the Sabbath and to interpret the Sabbath laws mercifully poses a dilemma for his Jewish contemporaries: Either Jesus is the Messiah sent by God, which makes him “Lord even of the sabbath” (Mk 2:28), or else he is merely a man, in which case his actions on the Sabbath are a sin against the Law. 364 그리스도교 신자들이 안식일을 주일로 대체한 이유는 무엇인가요? 예수 그리스도가 주일에 죽은 이들로부터 부활하셨기 때문에 그리스도인들은 안식일을 주일로 대체했습니다. 그러나 ‘주님의 날’을 뜻하는 주일은 안식일의 요소들을 모두 받아들였습니다. 2174-2176, 2190-2191 그리스도교의 주일은 세 가지 필수 요소를 지닙니다. 1) 주일은 천지 창조를 기억하게 하며, 하느님의 빛나는 자비를 시간 속에 끌어들입니다. 2) 주일은 그리스도를 통해 세상이 새롭게 된 ‘여덟 번째 창조의 날’을 기억하게 합니다.(부활 성야 미사 때에는 “세상이 창조된 것은 참으로 오묘하옵니다. 그러나 그리스도께서 파스카 제물이 되시어 저희를 구원하신 것은 더욱 오묘한 업적이옵니다.”라고 기도합니다.) 3) 주일은 그저 일을 쉬는 것을 거룩하게 하려고 있는 것만이 아니라, 인간이 하느님 안에서 영원한 안식을 누리게 되리라는 것을 미리 알려주기 위한 것입니다. 364 Why do Christians replace the Sabbath with Sunday? Christians replaced the celebration of the Sabbath with the celebration of Sunday because Jesus Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday. The “Lord’s Day”, however, does include elements of the Sabbath. 2174-2176, 2190-2191 The Christian Sunday has three essential elements: (1) It recalls the creation of the world and communicates the festive splendor of God’s goodness to the passage of time. (2) It recalls the “eighth day of creation”, when the world was made new in Christ (thus a prayer from the Easter Vigil says: “You have wonderfully created man and even more wonderfully restored him.”). (3) It includes the theme of rest, not just to sanctify the interruption of work, but to point even now toward man’s eternal rest in God. 365 그리스도인들은 ‘주님의 날’인 주일을 어떻게 지내나요? 가톨릭 신자는 주일이나 토요일 저녁에 미사에 참례합니다. 이날에는 하느님을 흠숭하는 일을 방해하거나 주일이 지닌 축제와 기쁨, 휴식, 원기 회복의 속성을 훼손하는 모든 일을 하지 않습니다. 2177-2186, 2192-2193 그리스도교 신자들은 초대 교회 때부터 자신들의 구세주를 기념하고 그분에게 감사드리며 그분과 동료 신자들과 새롭게 하나가 되기 위해 주일에 모였는데, 주일은 매주 돌아오는 부활 축일이기 때문입니다. 따라서 주일과 교회의 의무 대축일을 ‘거룩히 지내는 것’은 성실한 가톨릭 신자라면 누구에게나 가장 중요한 관심사라 할 수 있습니다. 오로지 급박한 가정사나 중대한 사회적 임무가 있을 때에만 예외로 인정받을 수 있습니다. 주일 미사 참례는 그리스도인의 삶에서 근간을 이루는 일이므로, 교회는 긴급한 이유 없이 주일 미사를 거르는 것은 중대한 죄라고 분명하게 선언합니다. 365 How do Christians make Sunday “the Lord’s day”? A Catholic Christian attends Holy Mass on Sunday or on the vigil of Sunday. On that day he refrains from all work that would prevent him from worshipping God or disturb the festive, joyful, restful, and restorative character of the day. 2177-2186, 2192-2193 Since Sunday is an Easter celebration that occurs each week, Christians from the earliest times have gathered together on that day to celebrate and thank their Redeemer and to reunite themselves with him and with others who are redeemed.
